STORIES OF PRIDE

MEET RACHEL, OUR CURRENT HEAD GIRL. SHE TELLS US ABOUT HER CAMBRIDGE ASPIRATIONS AND HOW THE SCHOOL HAS SUPPORTED HER THROUGH THE PROCESS.

What are you currently studying and what do you hope to do next year?

I’m taking Religious Studies, English Literature and History. I probably enjoy history the most because of my teacher and I am interested in learning about the past.

I am hoping to study Human, Social and Political Sciences at Cambridge, and my second choice is Anthropology at St Andrews. I have already had my Cambridge interview and I’m just waiting to for the verdict. The interview was interesting – it wasn’t like a regular interview. It felt more like mind games.

What support did you receive to complete your applications and interview?

I had more support from the school than anywhere else. I don’t think I would have even applied if it hadn’t been for the school. Miss Moyer and some other teachers helped me with my personal statement. Miss Prior even offered to get clothes for me for my interview and I was able to do the assessment at the school. Everything I really needed throughout the application process, I got from the school.

Can you tell us about your role as Head Girl?

The leadership team is made up 6 sixth formers. Main responsibility is to listen to  student queries and issues in confidence and help them deal with them and raising them to the appropriate staff member. There is a lot of mutual respect between the leadership team and staff.

I have been involved in projects such as our peer mentoring programme and organising the funding for charity work in the local area. Local charity work has really plummeted recently so we have been working to improve this. Recently, we have helped organise work experience in the local area, especially with the elderly, which is particularly important at this time of year.

What advice would you give to someone considering joining your Sixth Form?

It is very important to always trust yourself and also to trust your teachers and staff because they really want the best for you!
