'Matilda' An Outstanding Evening of Musical Theatre

On 13 July, the Main Hall was transformed into the wonderfully mischievous world of Matilda for what proved to be a truly outstanding evening of musical theatre. From the opening moments, the cast performed with incredible energy, confidence and commitment, bringing Roald Dahl’s much-loved characters to life with humour, warmth and enthusiasm. The audience was treated to an evening packed with memorable songs, energetic choreography and some fantastic individual performances.

Hayley Attwood gave a superb performance as Matilda, capturing both the intelligence and determination of the character, while Shaun O’Connor was wonderfully entertaining as Miss Trunchbull - a “Trunchbull Revelation” indeed! Olivia Baker brought incredible warmth and humour to the role of Miss Honey, and Harvey Froud and Lacie-Mae Wyatt gave memorable performances as Mr and Mrs Wormwood. These central performances were supported by an equally impressive ensemble, with every member of the cast contributing to the energy and success of the production.

One of the most special aspects of the entire production was the way the cast came together as a team. Throughout the rehearsal process, students formed strong friendships, supported one another and showed tremendous encouragement and kindness. That sense of unity was clear to see on stage, where the cast performed not simply as individuals, but as a genuine company.

Their enthusiasm for the production and for one another helped create a particularly joyful and supportive atmosphere. The response from the audience was exceptional, with some audience members describing Matilda as the best show they have ever seen at the school. Such praise is richly deserved. The success of the evening was the result of many weeks of hard work, determination and commitment from the cast and everyone involved behind the scenes.

The performance was a wonderful celebration of the talent within our school community and a night that those involved will remember for a very long time.

Congratulations to the entire cast and crew on a truly unforgettable production!
