Year 9 Options
Year 9 students will soon begin their GCSE options process. This is an important time for you and your child, and we understand that this can be an anxious time for anybody. It's vital that you and your child are well informed when making these decisions and we have a comprehensive programme of support and guidance to ensure that everyone is confident in making the right decisions about the next steps in your child’s education.
In addition to the in-school assemblies and guidance for your child, we have 3 key events to support you through the process:
- Options Information to be issued by 28 March 2024
We will launch the options process by providing families and students with an information video. This will talk you and your child through the process, the key dates, compulsory subjects, the option subjects and address any questions you might have. We will give guidance for the upcoming parent evening so you can make the most of the discussions with teachers. We will also provide you with the Options Booklet, which we hope you will be able to review and discuss with your child over the Easter break.
- Year 9 Parents Evening - Thursday 18th April 2024, 4pm – 7pm
You will be aware that we have moved the date of the parents evening so that you are able to meet with your child's teachers before making decisions about what your child will study next academic year. This gives you the opportunity to have individual discussions with key teachers to help focus your time at the Options Evening. You will be able to book your appointments with specific teachers nearer the time.
- Year 9 Options Evening - Thursday 2nd May 2024, 5pm – 7pm
This evening will allow you and your child to speak with subject teachers and current KS4 students about the specifics of each course to ensure that it is a suitable pathway for your child. We will ask for you to confirm your attendance to this nearer to the time.
Following the Options Evening, you will complete the form with your child giving the subject preferences. I will write to you nearer the time with further details about this, but in the meantime, should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch by emailing HCAoptions@habstrustsouth.org.uk .
